چکیده

Hydrocarbons are organic compounds consisting of C-C and C-H bonds. Carbon has a valence of four and thus requires four electrons or bonds to complete its octet in the neutral state. Hydrogen has a valence of one and thus requires a single electron or bond to complete its "duet" in the neutral state. Thus in hydrocarbons carbon can form neutral bonding arrangements by forming single bonds with hydrogen and single, double or triple bonds with other carbons (or other atoms). The nature of the carbon-carbon bonding arrangements in hydrocarbons is the basis for sub-classification of these compounds as alkanes, alkenes, alkynes or aromatics. The alkenes are the subject of this tutorial.Hydrocarbons (Alkanes, Alkenes, Alkynes and Aromatics)

Principles Of Drug Action 1, Spring 2005, Resonance and Induction RESONANCE AND INDUCTION TUTORIAL

Induction or the inductive effect of an atom or functional group is a function of that groups 1). electronegativity, 2). bonding order and charge and 3). position within a structure. Inductive effects refer to those electronic effects of an atom or functional group can contribute through single bonds such as saturated (sp) carbon atoms! This is very different from resonance effects discussed la...

Aldehyde and ketones are "carbonyl" derivatives of the hydrocarbons. A carbonyl is defined as an organic functional group consisting of a carbon atom involved in a double-bonding (pi) arrangement with oxygen. Recall that carbon has a valence of four and thus requires four electrons or bonds to achieve and octet. Oxygen has a valence of six and thus requires two electrons or bonds to satisfy its...

Expedient synthesis of cyclopropane alpha-amino acids by the catalytic asymmetric cyclopropanation of alkenes using iodonium ylides derived from methyl nitroacetate.

A highly enantioselective (up to 97.5% ee) and diastereoselective (95:5 dr trans/cis) Cu(I)-catalyzed cyclopropanation of alkenes using phenyliodonium ylide generated in situ from iodosobenzene and methyl nitroacetate is reported. The cyclopropanation took place with high enantioselectivity for a wide range of alkenes, and the reaction was performed at room temperature. 1-Nitrocyclopropyl ester...

HIV-1 antiretroviral drug therapy.

The most significant advance in the medical management of HIV-1 infection has been the treatment of patients with antiviral drugs, which can suppress HIV-1 replication to undetectable levels. The discovery of HIV-1 as the causative agent of AIDS together with an ever-increasing understanding of the virus replication cycle have been instrumental in this effort by providing researchers with the k...
